I treated my sister for lunch for her birthday at Thai Spice in Ft. Lauderdale a few weeks ago. Here is my review of this place. We’ve been here once before a few years earlier but I wanted to go back because the food was excellent and I wanted to try some more of their menu items.
The server brought this tray of spices and sauces to our table. I numbered them for this post. So #1 is a dry chili spice. It was actually my favorite on the whole tray. It was excellent on the calamari. Number 2 was a chili/sriracha sauce that was spicy af. Number 3 was vinegary sauce with chili. Number 4 had chili as well as the seeds so super spicy, I really liked that one as well.
First we had an order of their crispy calamari ($21). Tossed in garlic, basil, and chili sauce. If you go here you have to try this app. It was so delicious that we got a second portion. Truly a 10/10 app.
Our entrees came with a side salad and some egg fried rice. We both got the ginger dressing. Nothing to write home about just a simple side salad. 7/10.
For my entree I got the Thai Spice Black Angus Steak ($38) cooked with a Thai ginger, garlic, and soy. I had the steak cooked medium it came with a heaping portion of sautéed baby bok choy which I loved and a side of egg fried rice which was a tad bit bland for me. It came with a sauce but I wasn’t a fan, so I didn’t eat it. The meal overall was a bit dry, I would have loved another sauce on the side or cooked with the baby bok choy. The portion of the steak was a bit small for the price. It was just ok I would rate the whole meal a 6/10. I was contemplating getting the lobster pad Thai but got this instead. Next time I would get that. I didn’t drink any cocktails and neither did my sister. I don’t like soda so I had water with my entree.
My sister got the Pepper Steak, sliced filet mignon stir fried peppers, onions, and scallions in a Thai sauce and it came with a side of egg fried rice ($18) Her entree looked so delicious plus it was very saucy. I tried it and the the beef and sauce were delicious. She washed down her entree with a ginger ale.
We skipped dessert because we were stuffed after the 2 portions of calamari. I have to say our server who’s name I forgot was extremely polite and warm. I remember he told us he was from the Philippines. I normally tip starting at 20% but I tipped him an extra 2% because the service he provided was excellent. We will definitely be back.
Here are the totals:
Calamari $21 x 2- $42
Steak Entree $38
Pepper Steak Entree $18
Ginger Ale $4
Total- $102 + $23= $125
All in all, I had a great time fellowshipping with my sister. My entree was definitely a miss this time but I will be back to try eat that calamari again and try that Lobster pad Thai. Until next time.
